Entrepreneur and hair stylist Jen Atkin was no overnight success, and she wants you to know it.
It would be easy to think otherwise: check out her Instagram (she has a cool 3.6 million followers), and you’ll see it’s peppered with coiffed shots of her long-time clients – think the Kardashians/Jenners, Chrissy Teigen and Jessica Alba. She’s been hailed by The New York Times as “the most influential hair stylist in the world”, and is also a celebrated businesswoman, with her own haircare line, OUAI, and digital destination, ManeAddicts.com.
But Jen is out to shatter the illusion of effortless, instant success that permeates social media in her new book, Blowing My Way to the Top. She drove to LA aged 19, jobless and broke, and got a job as a receptionist in a hair salon. From there, it took years of serious hustling until she had a successful business.
