Imagine scoring your dream job ¬as managing director of Tourism Australia, making history as the first woman to lead the nation’s global tourism marketing agency. You’re tasked with the challenge of grabbing a bigger slice of the international tourism market and then, just a few months into the top job, you get tossed the world’s biggest curveball: a pandemic that would cause a global shutdown and bring an industry to its knees.
Tourism Australia MD Phillipa Harrison could have crumbled under the pressure, but instead she chose an adaptive mindset and looked to leaders like Jacinda Ardern for inspiration, telling Women’s Agenda that her ability to be collaborative and seek fast opinions has been crucial in her decision making.
Our Career Files series gives you a sneak peek into the lives of women with cool careers, and you can’t get much cooler than Phillipa’s – we’re pumped to have her as the speaker for our next event.
You’ll find out how she navigated the global crisis as a leader and paved her way to get one of Australia’s most powerful jobs, and everything else she’s learnt along the way. You’ll also get the chance to ask her your questions in a live Q&A.
From the grit and grind to the goose-bump moments, this is an unfiltered look at the career of a woman who’s made it to the top of her industry. It’s free for our Premium members and, as always, you can watch it at your desk or from under your doona (no judgement here).
